The HRing Course and Timing

About the Course

The course uses trails in the Heidmork and Homsheidi natural areas. These areas are spectacularly beautiful, with lush forests, lakes, streams, and lava fields.

The loop (Hring) is 43k long. It can be ridden on a gravel bike or hard-tail mountain bike. The surface is 45 % smooth single track, 30% gravel roads, and 25% paved paths and roads.

Segment Timing

There is no mass start at the HRING, except for the 24-hour riders. Every other category will have a starting block. All rides start from the Base Camp at the Airplane Hangars

  • Sufferfest – Friday 22:00
  • Gritfest – 8:00 am – 8:30
  • Gravel Treks – 12:00 -12:30
  • Pebble Trek – 12:00-12:30

All riders, except Sufferfest, must finish their ride by 20:00

What is Segment Timing?

We have split the loop into segments. You are only timed while riding the segment

  • Heiðmörk  Segment is 21 K
  • Olis Segment 6 K
  • Hólmsheiði Segment is 17 K

At the end of each segment, the clock stops to allow you time to refuel and rest at your leisure. The final results are a cumulation of all segments completed.

Once you have finished all your segments you can stop. For some, it will take the entire allotted time. For others, you can choose to rest more between loops or finish early and enjoy more beer and apres´.
